That's a wrap! 12 highlights from 2022

2022 has flown by and while the year has seen a return of “normality”, there’s no denying that the pandemic has transformed our business and the recruitment landscape.

While we enjoy our days off between Christmas and New Year (which we get for free on top of our holidays), we're taking a walk down memory lane and looking back at the highlights of the last 12 months.

Sit back, enjoy your leftover turkey sandwiches, and enjoy (in no particular order), our top 12 highlights of the year.

Bright Purple 12 highlights of 2022

Adding four new people to the team, including an Apprentice

We were delighted to welcome four new purple people this year.

Daryll Paterson joined the Finance team in March 2022 as a Finance Assistant Apprentice. He has been settling well and mastering skills in finance.

Mozma Ahmed joined us in March 2022 as a Social Media and Marketing Executive. She has been publishing content on all Bright Purple social media platforms (LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram) and responsible for all marketing activity.

The launch of our full-remote resourcing division in 2021 has proven successful that we hired a new member to the team. Claire Webber joined us in April 2022 as a Senior Resourcer.

Sophie McLeod joined us in October 2022 as a Recruitment Consultant. She has successfully placed several candidates in Software Engineer roles and has been smashing her targets.

First recruitment agency to roll out Pawprint for Business to all employees

In May 2022, Bright Purple partnered with Pawprint to empower and inspire action for climate change. All employees at Bright Purple are using the Pawprint app to measure and understand their carbon footprint. We are reducing our collective impact as an organisation.

Pawprint is a Scottish eco-tech company that helps businesses to unite, engage, and support their colleagues in tackling climate change at work, at home, and beyond. Employees are empowered to take control of their carbon footprint using a handy Pawprint app, encouraging participation through leader boards, teams, and tailored eco-sprints.

Art of Relaxation - Wellbeing workshop for World Mental Health Day

In October 2022, we had a wellbeing session and learned the “Art of Relaxation”. A huge thanks to Lindsey Hume from Lifelink for running a great interactive session and teaching us different relaxing techniques and breathing exercises.

Lunch and Learn workshops

Zane Priekule, our Head of Learning and Development launched Lunch and Learn workshops in October 2022. These are monthly workshops where one member of the team shares their knowledge and tips for best practice. Each month a team member steps forward to share their insights on different areas of recruitment i.e., selling vacancies or interview tips.

Internal promotions

As a team, we have celebrated a few internal promotions throughout the year. Craig Bradley earned a well-deserved promotion from Recruitment Consultant to Senior Recruitment Consultant. Ethan Buddie was promoted from Senior Consultant to Principal Consultant. With so many of our team continuing to smash targets and succeed, expect to see even more home-grown talent earning promotions in 2023!

Quarterly events

In 2022, we enjoyed many teams day out and took part in several activities.

Bright Purple goes White Water Rafting – We had a team day out to Aberfeldy, River Tay, and took part in White Water Rafting.

Bright Purple meets Remote – In July 2022, some of the Edinburgh team travelled to London to meet the remote team. The Edinburgh team did have to take a detour to York and Manchester as the trains got cancelled because of the damage to the overhead electric wires. However, everyone got together for dinner followed by the Moulin Rouge musical at the Piccadilly Theatre.

Bright Purple Fringe Festival - We had a team day out during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and we watched 3 comedy shows and finished the day with a delicious tapas meal at Cafe Andaluz.

Bright Halloween – we had a team day out and went on a ghostly Underground Tour of South Bridge Vaults in Edinburgh. In the afternoon we did a team building exercise and split into groups to solve a Murder Mystery Investigation. We had prizes for the following:
  • Nick Price was prized for being the most scared (yes that’s our CEO!)
  • Team Frankenstein Farts won first place
  • Team Sherlock Bones won the best team name

We have also enjoyed returning to a few in-person events and dinners, including Scotland IS ScotSoft22 and DIGITExpo 2022.

Reviewed our company values

In 2022, we reviewed our company values and refreshed them as we believe the new company values align closer with our business vision and long-term growth of our company. The new company values (as highlighted below!) will help direct every person at Bright Purple toward a common goal, guide us in every decision we make, and allow our team to live that value day-to-day at work and be successful.

Our company values are at the heart of our culture and the essence of our people. We believe that by following our company values, we are easy to do business with and great to work for.

Raised £146.07 for Macmillan Coffee Morning

In November 2022, we hosted a Macmillan Coffee Morning. Some talented bakers brought in their show-stopping creations, while it seems that some cheeky ones went to the shops. However, we want to say a massive thanks to everyone who baked and donated for such a great cause. All money raised went to helping people with cancer through the Macmillan Cancer Support Group.

Fitness Sessions

In December 2022, we started fitness group sessions to prioritise our employees’ health and wellbeing. Every Wednesdays, during the afternoon, the team gets together at CaveFit and does 30 minute circuit workout, mix of weights and bodyweight, fit for all levels of fitness with Siri Price (our CEO’s daughter and personal trainer!). This is an additional perk of being a Bright Purple person and it means a lot that our business thinks and cares about our well-being.

Our team is growing – new hires joining 2023

Next year we’re delighted to be welcoming more purple people to the team.  We have a new purple person joining us in January 2023 – keep an eye out!

If you're interested in a career at Bright Purple, you can send us your CV at any time for consideration. As part of the Bright Purple team, you'll benefit from:

Nick Price (CEO) appointed honorary consul for Lithuania

We'd like to say a massive congratulations to our CEO Nick Price who was appointed as the new Lithuanian Honorary Consul in Scotland and had his inauguration in July 2022.

Over the years Nick has led Bright Purple in providing services to Lithuanian businesses, he has served the board of the British Chamber of Commerce in Lithuania and delivered a number of 'Address to the Lassies' speeches at the annual Burns Supper in Vilnius, as well as making many lifelong Lithuanian friends.

Nick will now officially provide a consular link for all Lithuanians living, working or visiting in Scotland, as well as act as conduit for business, cultural and political ties between the two great countries.

Annual Christmas party

And finally, we had our annual Bright Purple Christmas party, filled with great food, laughs, and dance-offs, not to mention a fair bit of alcohol. It’s always so fun to get together in person at the end of another busy year and celebrate the fabulous year we’ve had. A great way to say thank you to the whole team for all their hard work!

A note from Nick...

Bright Purple’s CEO, Nick Price shared some words looking back over the year:

"It’s great to have an opportunity to think about highlights in the year of 2022, given that year marked a year of pain and sadness. 2022 started with the Russian war against Ukraine, we had the death of her Majesty the Queen and the upheaval in UK government and the cost-of-living crisis! However, for the Bright Purple team there were many positives to celebrate and for myself as CEO, my focus is always on our people and their futures. Providing top quality service levels throughout the year we saw many recruitment projects fulfilled, delighting existing clients and winning a significant number of new customers. This can only happen when your team are fully engaged, focused on their outcomes and in general, in a good place and for me, that is something I saw throughout 2022. We continue to work either hybrid or remote, this has brought both opportunity and challenges for our people, and as the country enters recession, my focus going in to 2023 is the positive mental well-being of all Bright Purple people".

That's a wrap!

From everyone at Bright Purple, we hope you have a very Merry Christmas!

We will be taking a short break between Christmas and New Year, but we'll be back in 2023 for all your tech recruitment needs!
