Name: Mozma Ahmed
Role: Social Media and Marketing Executive
Why did you choose to work for Bright Purple?
From the first conversation I had with the business, I knew that I wanted to work at Bright Purple. Cliché – even though it is true.
Nick Price (CEO) and Kane Webster (Sales Director) both told me about the company vision and how I can help drive the brand forward. In addition, it was a combination of factors including Bright Purple being a growing company and the opportunity to develop and have a real impact in a company as well as working your way up to a senior position.
I have been working at Bright Purple for 3 months now and it’s been the right move for me. From day one I have been given complete ownership of the social media and marketing side of the business. My manager is very supportive and always open to new ideas.
How many businesses do you come across where the CEO is recording a TikTok video because you've asked them to?
What’s your favourite part of your role?
When you work in a B2B environment, you do not have a direct route to the customer as you would in B2C. Therefore, you need to get creative and try to remember that you are still looking to reach a person at the end of the day.
What’s your favourite social media platform?
My current favourite social media platform is TikTok (who isn’t obsessed?). As a marketer, the sheer amount of content you can consume quickly keeps me coming back. The simplicity of the app and the impact on global communication is phenomenal. A lot of brands have started using TikTok to interact and connect with people from all over the world – which makes it feel less corporate and more people-focused.
What are the challenges with social media?
One of the biggest challenges with managing social media is not to slip into the habit of just telling people what the company does and instead constantly trying to be creative with content. You must be quick to spot opportunities and take advantage of trends. However, as a marketer, it’s important to decide which platforms are right for the business. Don’t make assumptions about where your audience spends their time online.
You also need to make sure that what you post and how you interact with people presents a professional image to the world. It’s equally important to remember that there will be times you make mistakes on social media - it will happen more than once – but it’s the lessons you can learn from them.
Tell us about one of your favourite posts/interactions you have ever seen on social media?
My favourite interaction on social media had to be the conversation and jokes made around M&S Colin vs Aldi Cuthbert “copycat” caterpillar cake.
So many brands jumped on board to have a laugh but in all fairness both their social teams took it well and put out some great content themselves.
Despite both retailers settling the legal battle, Aldi announced the return of Cuthbert the Caterpillar with cheeky swipes at M&S in a series of hilarious social media posts. See image below.
Aldi shared pictures on social media of trucks parked outside M&S branches carrying a billboard announcing the return of Cuthbert on 6 June 2022.

Final Comments:
It's safe to say that social media isn’t going anywhere. A business without a social media account to its name is nowhere to be found. It doesn’t matter if you run a small local shop or a big national company. Social media is more than just a trend as it can help you connect with your customers, increase brand awareness, and boost your leads and sales.
