Bright Purple are recruiting a Cloud Operations Engineering Lead for our Financial Services Client based in Edinburgh. The perfect candidate will have a strong Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Operations background with experience of building DevOps capabilities and Continuous Delivery pipelines using industry recognised tools and methods.
The role
As Cloud Operations Engineering Lead you will;
Lead the cloud operations team that is solely accountable for the cloud shared services platform and the provision of 3rd level cloud support to other parts of the organisation on a 24x7 basis.
Identify and deliver against opportunities to increase the level of instrumentation and automation across the shared services platform as well as the engineering, out of points of failure, to make it easy to delivery support and meet service levels.
Act as an internal reliability engineering consultant to other teams responsible for building and supporting cloud based services.
Provide regular management information covering key service and cost management related KPIs including cost optimisation opportunities.
Working closely with cloud engineering leads and product managers to maintain and prioritise our backlog, develop stories and acceptance criteria, to plan and estimate future sprints.
Engage with domain architects, IT risk and IT security teams plus key suppliers to ensure the cloud services are secure, scalable, performant, optimised and compliant.
Enhance continuous delivery tools to drive high levels of automation, test driven development approach and consistency across the cloud services we develop.
Capture and share cloud related knowledge and experience across the cloud services team and broader organisation through blog posts, videos and training sessions.
Skills required
The successful candidate will have a mix of technical and commercial skills, including;
Enthusiasm and a passion for using public cloud platforms and high levels of instrumentation and automation to help the business build new innovative services
Experience of leading operations teams and supporting business critical services on a 24x7 basis including a strong systems administration background.
Proven hands-on experience of AWS and hold one or more AWS professional certifications.
Strong knowledge of modern architectures and the tool-chains required to effectively deploy and manage cloud solutions at scale.
Good knowledge of one or more programming languages (e.g. Python, Ruby) and continuous integration / delivery approaches and tools.
Strong understanding and experience of agile working practices and testing methodologies including test driven development (TDD).
